Did You Know? Educational Series on Bullying and Learning Disabilities

DID YOU KNOW?

Bullying of children with disabilities is significant but there is very little research to document it.

Only 10 U.S. studies have been conducted on the connection between bullying and developmental disabilities but all of these studies found that children with disabilities were two to three times more likely to be bullied than their non disabled peers. One study shows that 60 percent of students with disabilities report being bullied regularly compared with 25 percent of all students. We need to increase awareness to stop this. Dare to Dream Video

Students with disabilities often express feelings of loneliness, misunderstanding, and powerlessness. But these students have found their voice, and they want to share their stories, and their dreams, with the world. Differences don’t have to divide us. They can serve as opportunities for discussion, diversity, and creativity
